Chief Mark Montgomery



Sergeant John Peden

Sergeant John Peden graduated from Cozad High School in 1987.  He enlisted in the US Navy.  He served 5 years in the Navy with deployments to Puerto Rico, Japan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.  He received several medals for his service.  Sgt Peden was honorably discharged in 1992.  He worked in the private sector until 2003 when he gained employment with the Board of Public Works for the City of Cozad.  Sgt Peden began his career with the Cozad Police Department and graduated from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in 2005.  He has strived to continue his education and further his knowledge.  Sgt Peden was a past member and Rescue Chief of the Cozad Fire Department.  He obtained an EMT License and eventually became an EMT Instructor.  He has achieved instructor certifications in Firearms, CPR, Use of Force, SHARP (Sexual, Harassment, and Rape Prevention), and National Disaster Life Support.  He has achieved certifications in Law Enforcement Supervision, Law Enforcement Management, and others. 


Officer Thomas Twyford

Officer Thomas Twyford graduated  in 2006 from Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School in Reinbeck, IA.  He attended Columbia College in Columbia, MO. for Criminal Justice.  He graduated from the Moberly, MO. Law Enforcement Training Center in 2011.  Officer Twyford served the citizens of Boone County, MO. as a Corrections Officer at the Boone County Jail before moving to Cozad in 2013.  Upon moving to Cozad he gained employment as a Corrections Officer at the Dawson County Jail.  Officer Twyford began his career with the Cozad Police Department in 2013.  He has achieved an instructor certification in Defensive Tactics (PPCT) and is a certified field training Officer. 


Officer Brad Peltier

Officer Brad Peltier graduated from Sheridan High School in Sheridan Colorado.  He attended Arapahoe Community College and obtained his EMT license.  Following High School he entered the US Army.  He served 6 years in the Army with deployments to Korea and Iraq.  He received several medals for his service.  After receiving the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Iraq he was honorably discharged.  Officer Peltier attended American Intercontinental University for Criminal Justice.  He was hired in 2006 by  the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and attended the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in 2007.  Officer Peltier served the citizens of Lincoln County for 6 years.  In 2013 Officer Peltier was hired by a private security company to provide security services to an information bunker near NORAD in Colorado Springs.  He was then hired by the Cozad Police Department in 2015.  He has achieved instructor certifications in PPCT (defensive Tactics), and Taser.  He has achieved certifications in Instructor Development, Desert Snow Drug Interdiction, Nebraska Drug Interdiction, Precision Rifle Marksmanship, and others. 


Officer Aaron Pelzer

Officer Aaron Pelzer graduated from Gothenburg High School in Gothenburg, NE.  Following High School he attended Mid Plains Community College for Criminal Justice.  He gained employment in 2010 with the Gothenburg Police Department and attended the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in 2011.  Officer Pelzer served the citizens and visitors of Gothenburg for 5 years.  He began his career with the Cozad Police Department in 2015.


Officer Keith Henggeler

​Officer Keith Henggeler graduated from Lincoln Nebraska’s Pius X High School in 2004.  He received a baseball scholarship and attended college at Maple Woods C.C in Kansas City, Missouri.  After College he played minor league baseball for the Bridge Port Blue Fish in Connecticut, and the McKinney Blue Thunder in Dallas.  In 2010 he was the bullpen coach for the Lincoln Salt Dogs.  He began serving the citizens of Nebraska as a Corrections Officer for the Nebraska Department of Corrections in 2011.  From 2012-2016 he served as a Corrections Officer for Lancaster County.  Officer Henggeler was hired by the Cozad Police Department in October of 2016.  He will be attending the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in April of 2017.


Officer Nick Reynolds

Officer Nick Reynolds spent several years with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office.  He has rejoined the Cozad Police Department.


Officer Garrett McArdle

Officer Garrett McArdle has rejoined the Cozad Police Department after spending a year away.
